Swingin' New England 2006

Our quick stepping curator cleared the floor of piles of fallen fall color and a few downed power lines to make sure you knew about a great event coming to New England early in November -- Swingin' New England 2006. In lieu of an official press release, we've taken the liberty of posting information from the official web page. To learn even more visit the DancingFeats web site. Dancingfeats sponsors this swinging party.

iDance has found some very special gifts to go with this event. Three great T-shirts come from our favorite vendor, Tee Dance, a special dancers gift emporium located only online. Tee Dance is one of several terrific dance shops located in Cafepress.com.

Ballet News

www.AllAboutDance.com

iDance curators found this news item from the world of ballet and the land of modern dance. The article appears on SFGate. Here is a snippet and a link to the entire article:

  • “There aren't big stars in ballet these days like there used to be, but Sylvie Guillem is certainly one who deserves that description…Now, at 41, an age when most dancers are wrapping it up for good, the French ballerina has embarked on a new career as a modern dancer.”

A full day of entertainment, food, crafts, exhibits and celebration of the rich cultural diversity in our region from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM

"To A Different Beat"
Known for visually arresting creations, this contemporary youth company explores a cultural fusion of expressive rhythm and dance set to modern global music. Blending individual creativity, these dancers entice with their own rhythms of the heart, intense imagery, boldness and pure energy.

For the cast of Music & Motion Dance, this has been their most ambitious project to date. The company toured with this new dance work in Canada during the Summer and then had a most successful premiere here in the states at the Philadelphia Fringe & Live Arts Festival. High-energy world beats and sizzling rhythms “make the dances more challenging and complex to choreograph” according to senior dancer, Noelle Tolbert. But she adds, “they also just make you want to get up and move, stomp, dance and just enjoy this ethno-fusion and celebration of what is a part of all of us.”

Music & Motion Dance Productions is a non-profit corporation, which is both owned and operated by teens with mentoring from outside corporations and individuals. It is a group of pre-professional dancers ages fourteen thru nineteen, who have expressed an interest in pursuing dance and the performing arts. Under the artistic direction of Steven Weisz, this group’s mission has been to empower young people through dance and creative collaboration in the performing arts, building self-esteem and inspiring self expression and community action. To that end, Music & Motion performs locally and in surrounding communities throughout the year, as well as performances in a fully professional atmosphere presented for corporations, museums, gardens, and live arts related venues.

International Day: Celebrating The Many Cultures of Bucks County
International Day Celebration is a one day festival which celebrates the rich cultural diversity in the region. The focus of International Day is on education, providing an opportunity to showcase the heritages of those who make up our communities. The Children's Cultural Center, www.childrensculturalcenter.org, has been the coordinating organization of this gala festival since 2000. International Day features fun for the whole family through multi-cultural entertainment, exhibits, games, events and refreshments, and includes the annual bocce ball tournament and the art contest. Each year the festival has grown in attendance and awareness because International Day places the spotlight on the cultural heritage of families throughout the Delaware Valley. Recognizing that most of us can trace our family roots to foreign lands, International Day features cultural aspects of this rich heritage.

Scare Away the Noobs and Step on to the Mat!

Dance Dance Revolution, DDR, continues to sweep millions into its powerful magnetic field. The astoundingly popular combination of video game, exercise gear, dance trainer, rhythm machine, competitive team sport and party mixer is a hand-down favorite as this year’s top dance gift.

Just in case you don’t know, Wikipedia introduces their entry on Dance Dance Revolution this way:
Dance Dance Revolution, or DDR (known as Dancing Stage in Europe), is a music video game series produced by Konami. It was first introduced to Japanese video arcades in 1998, after being shown at the Tokyo Game Show earlier that year. Since then, the game has gained significant popularity elsewhere in the world, including large portions of North America and Europe. As of 2005, over 90 official versions have been produced, including those for home video game consoles. The Dance Dance Revolution series is a subset of the larger Bemani series of music video games. Including the arcade release of SuperNOVA there are exactly 950 songs released among all official arcade and console versions.

The game is typically played on a dance pad with four arrow panels: left, down, up, and right. These panels are pressed using the player's feet, in response to arrows that appear on the screen in front of the player. The arrows are synchronized to the general rhythm or beat of a chosen song, and success is dependent on the player's ability to time and position his or her steps accordingly.

Let’s take a little look at how Dance Dance Revolution is playing out around the world.

Introducing the iDance News | The Dancers Gift Shop Blog

Welcome to the iDance News. This blog is published by iDance | The Dancers Gift Shop. The blog is a brand new feature of The Dancers Gift Shop. It will probably take a little time, and perhaps several posts, for our curator to settle in and learn all the capabilities of the new Blogger Beta software, but here is the plan: iDance News will be wandering the Internet in search of off beat news from the international dance community. We'll import video from a variety of sources, we'll re-feed and re-blog from hither and yon, we'll have original content, too, of course. We will highlight the latest product information from designers and companies with special offerings for dancers. We are The Dancers Gift Shop, after all.

We'd like to hear from you, not only as readers of the iDance News, but we'd like to work with fellow dance web site owners to publicize and popularize your dance web sites. We are happy to accept profiles of your dance web site to include in our blog posts. These additional links into your dance web site can help improve your site's page rank and make it more visible in search results. The iDance News is also happy to accept your dance related press releases for inclusion in our blog. If you have a performance or event that needs additional publicity, send us a copy of your press release at info@dancersgiftshop.com

There are many fun and fascinating dance blogs in the Blogger community and elsewhere on the Net. Our blogroll will be including as many as we can find. As we build it, please let us know about your favorites and any we've missed.

So.... Dance news, dance products and dancer's gift information, entertianing dance video, your dance event press releases and performance news. Bookmark our new blog and The Dancers Gift Shop, too. Don't be shy, leave us a comment now and then, and thanks for visiting.
